My mom wisely reminded me this week that the things I plan for are only possible “if the Lord so wills.” Perhaps my attempts to walk in faith have become presumptuous, but it has not been my attempt to exclude God’s sovereign hand from the picture. I fully realize that it is God who wills, God who opens doors, and God who closes them. If the Lord does not provide for me to move to Papua New Guinea this summer, then I am confident that here is where He wants me this summer.
In many ways, I aspire to the quiet faith of the hymn writer Joseph Gilmore who penned the following words:
He leadeth me! O blessed thought!
O words with heavenly comfort fraught!
Whatever I do, wherever I be,
Still tis God’s hand that leadeth me!
